Offshore Racing Events

J/World Performance Sailing has been coaching racers of all levels for over 40 years.  After making thousands of buoy races faster and smarter around the course, we expanded in to the growing world of distance and offshore racing.  Since that time, we have run coached programs in numerous iterations of such prestigious events as the Transpac, the Pacific Cup, Newport to Bermuda, Newport to Cabo, San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race, and many more.

J/World proudly offers the ultimate in offshore racing programs.  We realize that is it difficult to gain good experience in offshore racing, and so we have constructed programs to help individuals advance their game to the level where they are comfortable offshore, can contribute positively to racing teams, and/or mount an offshore campaign of their own.  We conduct big-boat training aboard our grand-prix level boats in an active and highly instructional environment.  Most programs have 2:1 student to instructor ratios, insuring that everyone gets a tremendous amount of personal attention.

There are no other programs like ours anywhere in the world!

Our offshore programs, put together and managed by J/World, are absolutely unique in the world of yachting.  You are a truly active and integral member of the team.  We don’t load the boat with clients to the point where no one gets to do anything.  We won’t just park you over a grinding pedestal  We aren’t just  taking you for a ride like so many big boat programs.  You are sailing the boat.  You get to drive, trim, navigate…  whatever your interests are, we’ll be sure that you get to exercise that muscle.

For most events, we limit enrollment to six clients.  With three coaches aboard, that’s a 2:1 ratio that means everyone aboard gets a ton of personal attention from our extremely experienced staff.

These programs are fully turn-key, and managed by a team of sailors who are hand selected for both their extensive sailing background, and their ability to coach well and share their knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm with others.  The afloat staff is supported by our expert shore team, insuring that you have the time of your life.

The boat is either owned or sourced by J/World.  This is crucial…  it is not some random vessel with an unknown equipment list.  To you, this means that the equipment is on absolutely top condition, the boat is maintained to the highest competitive standards, and the safety equipment onboard is second to none.

The J/World Offshore Programs are singular in the world of yachting.  If you have heard of other pay-to-play programs or you have joined the ‘cattle boat’ programs that dominate the market, it’s time to rethink your experience.  There is no other program in the world like J/World Offshore.

San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race

March 9-18, 2022

J/World Performance Sailing offers sailors the opportunity to race in the San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race, a 1000 mile mostly downwind West Coast classic run in March of “even” years.  A typically downwind run to the tropics, the fun sailing, perfect winter destination, and excellent event hosted by San Diego Yacht Club attracts an excellent fleet.  It’s one of our all time favorite events!

Newport to Cabo Race

March, 2023

J/World Performance Sailing invites you to join our team in the race from Newport Beach, CA to Cabo San Lucas at the end of the Baja peninsula held every two years. This 800 mile mostly/usually downwind run is renowned for the competitive fleet and great hospitality.  Come join us for a race to the tropics, held March of “odd” years (alternates with the SD to PV Race).

So Cal 300

May 31-June 1, 2022

The So Cal 300 is an annual event which runs from the beautiful harbor at Santa Barbara through a series of scoring gates in the Channel Islands down to the finish outside San Diego Bay.  Join J/World for the adventure, including training days in Santa Barbara and participation on one of our coached teams.

Newport to Bermuda Race

June Of ‘Even’ Years

The iconic Newport to Bermuda Race needs little introduction to fans of offshore sailing.  The 635 mile race is renowned for the large, competitive fleet and challenging conditions.  Run every two years (‘even’ years), we will next be participating in 2024.

Transpac

July Of ‘Odd’ Years

The Transpacific Yacht Race is considered by many to be the ultimate offshore race.  Departing Los Angeles in July of ‘odd’ years, a highly competitive fleet makes the mostly downwind sail across 2225 miles of open ocean to the finish line off Diamond Head in Oahu.  The consistently excellent sailing conditions and the allure of  making landfall I the Hawaiian islands attracts some of the best boats – and team – in the world.  For many, this is the event of a lifetime.

Pacific Cup

July Of ‘Even’ Years

Our offshore boat, reaching into Hawaii

Every other year a fleet of boats heads out the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge with a destination a world away.  After a little more the 2000 miles of open ocean sailing, we arrive in the stunning Kaneohe Bay on the northern shore of Oahu.  This is the Pacific Cup, run in July of “even” years.  It is a fantastic adventure that boasts some phenomenal sailing across one of the most fantastic stretches of open ocean on the planet.

Palermo to Monte Carlo

August 17-26, 2022

The Palermo-Monte Carlo Race is one of the most prestigious races in the Mediterranean. Founded in 2005 to unite the cities of Palermo and Monte Carlo through a yacht race, this event offers both technical grand-prix racing and beautiful landscapes. The event is one of the most important and renowned offshore regattas of the Mediterranean Sea, and it is part of numerous international circuits.

Rolex Middle Sea Race

October 19-29, 2022

A 600 mile race around Sicily, starting and ending in Malta, the Rolex Middle Sea Race is an highly competitive event which draws a world class fleet.  The course makes for challenging and interesting sailing, and the Mediterranean sailing conditions are generally superb.
